MCArchive - This is an exellent source for many mods over several versions of Minecraft. It's way better than anything I can cobble together so I suggest you check that site out first.

WDMods - Minecraft Forums post with various mods and tweaks by wd1966. Many different versions of mods from the early betas up to release 1.2.3, and a lot of still-functioning links. The most notable here is probably the Improved Chat Mod.
